Allflo Refurbishes Blood Pump for the Australian Meat Industry

Allflo Refurbishes Blood Pump for the Australian Meat Industry

Industry: Food & Beverage
Application: Progressive Cavity Pump – Refurbishment
Outcome: Extended asset life, reduced disruption, long-term reliability

After more than 30 years of continuous service, a progressive cavity pump supplied by Allflo to an Australian meat processing facility was showing signs of wear.

Years of reliable operation had taken their toll, with corrosion and fatigue beginning to affect performance.

Rather than rushing to replacement, the customer engaged Allflo to assess the pump and recommend the most practical long-term solution.

The challenge

At first glance, replacing the pump with a new unit appeared to be the obvious option. However, further consideration revealed several drawbacks:

  • High installation and commissioning costs
  • Extended downtime during changeover
  • Disruption to an established process
  • Loss of a pump design the site was already familiar with

Given the pump’s proven service history and suitability for the application, Allflo proposed an alternative approach.

The decision: refurbishment over replacement

Although the cost of refurbishing the pump was comparable to purchasing a new unit, the overall value of refurbishment was significantly higher.

Key advantages included:

  • Lower ongoing operating costs
  • Readily available and cost-effective spare parts
  • Minimal disruption to the existing installation
  • Retention of a pump the site knew and trusted

How the refurbishment was delivered

The pump was returned to Allflo’s repair facility, where it was fully stripped, inspected and assessed by experienced technicians.

  • Serviceable components were replaced where required
  • Obsolete or unavailable parts were repaired or remanufactured in-house
  • Corroded cast iron housings were sandblasted & recoated with a rust-resistant epoxy
  • The pump was reassembled, tested and prepared for recommissioning
This approach ensured the pump could be returned to service without compromising reliability or performance.

The result: reliability restored

The refurbished pump was successfully returned to operation, delivering:

  • A fully restored asset with decades of proven performance
  • Lower total cost of ownership
  • Simple ongoing maintenance
  • Confidence in long-term reliability

Most importantly, the customer retained a pump their plant had depended on for decades — now restored and ready to continue supporting production well into the future.
